Priyanka Chopra reflects on failed ‘two-second music career’, says she has 40 unreleased songs: ‘They’ll never be heard’
Priyanka Chopra opened up about her failed career as a pop-star, and said that she is happy to admit that it didn't work out because she comes from a place of authenticity.

Priyanka Chopra has now established herself as an actor in Hollywood, with multiple high-profile projects under her belt. But a decade ago, she first attempted to make inroads in the West through music. Priyanka collaborated with several pop stars, and released a handful of singles. But her music career didn’t quite take off, and she gamely laughed about it in a new interview.
While chatting with Film Companion, Priyanka reflected on her ‘two-second music career’ and said that if everybody is going to have an opinion about it, she wouldn’t want to feel left out. Priyanka made her debut as an actor in Hollywood with a lead role in the television series Quantico.
Priyanka said that after spending her entire 20s working non-stop, she enjoyed the freedom that her brief stint as a popstar gave her, especially because it happened in the US, where she still had relative anonymity. She said that she really admires musicians, because they create from nothing, whereas actors always ‘lean on’ other people’s words and direction. “So, when I started doing music, I was in the room with all these people that I had grown up admiring, like will.i.am, Pitbull and RedOne… I was spinning, and I was suddenly doing stuff that I liked.”
Priyanka said that she wasn’t exactly filled with hope after she heard her first song. “I didn’t think it was going to be long term,” she said, as the crowd laughed. “I was enjoying it too much to give it up,” she said. Asked how she’s able to laugh about it now, Priyanka added, “In my 22-year career, it was two seconds only. There are literally four singles, guys. I have 40 in the laptop though, which will never be heard… I come from a place of honesty. I just think it’s easier to be authentic and transparent. Y’all are talking about it anyway, so I might as well join the conversation. Why are you leaving me out? Tell me what you really feel, so we can all talk about it.”
Priyanka will next be seen in the big-budget Prime Video series Citadel, and after that in the romantic comedy Love Again. She will make her long-awaited return to Bollywood with Farhan Akhtar’s road trip movie Jee Le Zaraa, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.
