Neil Nitin Mukesh, who was last seen in the ZEE5 film Hisaab Barabar, recently opened up about the time he had a supposed argument with Shah Rukh Khan during an award function, where he told SRK to “shut up.” Neil said that he would never tell any of his seniors to “shut up,” and since it was an award function, there were many variables behind what transpired between him and Shah Rukh. He then shared that many have made fun of him in the past for his name, but he believes that they don’t have a legacy like his, so they don’t know how to respect it.

In a chat with Hindi Rush, Neil was asked about the incident with Shah Rukh and he said, “I love him so much. I want to clarify that I would never say ‘shut up’, but it was a show and there were so many things at play there. That conversation is entirely different, and I am not even talking about that.” After issuing this disclaimer, he proceeded to talk about those who have disrespected his stage name, which honours his father and grandfather’s legacy. Neil is the son of singer Nitin Mukesh and grandson of legendary singer Mukesh.

“My feelings towards my parents, my grandfather’s name, if I want to keep it alive, how I can make anyone understand that? I can understand it, my family understands it and it is more than enough for me. I will not try to make an outsider understand this. If they want to make a joke, let them. You are not Neil Nitin Mukesh. You don’t have such a legacy. So you will make fun of this. I feel proud that we are celebrating ‘100 years of Mukesh’. I know who my grandfather is,” he shared.

Neil shared that his father Nitin Mukesh dedicated his life to protect Mukesh’s legacy and Neil is just carrying the torch forward. “I have seen my father’s struggle. Isn’t it nice that I want to keep my father and grandfather’s name alive? Not because my grandfather is a legend, there is an emotion behind it,” he said.

Neil’s controversy with Shah Rukh started after SRK asked him during an award function, “Your name is Neil Nitin Mukesh. All of these are first names, where is your surname?” Shah Rukh was supposedly joking on the stage, and when Neil asked for his permission to reply, he said, “This is the insulting podium, go for it.” Neil said, “That is an insult for me.” Neil was visibly offended as he told Shah Rukh and Saif Ali Khan to “shut up.”
