Mudassar Aziz on Akshay Kumar: ‘Form is temporary but class is permanent’
Mudassar Aziz, the director of Khel Khel Mein, opens up about his experience directing Akshay Kumar.

Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, directed by Mudassar Aziz, has been struggling at the box office even after receiving positive reviews. In the comedy film, Akshay plays a plastic surgeon named Rishabh who is facing problems in his marriage with wife Vartika (played by Vaani Kapoor), who gives him an ultimatum to improve their relationship within three months or face divorce. In Khel Khel Mein, Akshay is in form as he got back to comedy after doing a string of action films and biopics.
In an interview with indianexpress.com, when Mudassar was asked if it is disheartening to see Akshay’s low phase as his work is not getting the kind of appreciation it deserves, at least in the movie they worked together in, the filmmaker said that he is confident that the superstar will “find his way” soon.
He said, “I am too junior in the film journey to make a comment on someone as large as Akshay Kumar. He has 33 years of entertainment behind him. He steps out every day in order to prove his mettle, his stardom. He has a very thinking mind. He takes a lot of things into account, so it is not like he is not solving the rubik’s cube in his own mind. I am sure he is. Which is why I say that form is temporary but class is permanent.”
Mudassar Aziz further drew parallels between Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan, both of whom have faced lows in their careers. He says today it is unfortunate that we live in a society “where writing somebody off is very fashionable,” but Akshay is resilient and mindful and is constantly working on getting back at the top of his game.
He said, “He will find his way. It has happened too many times before. It has happened with Shah Rukh Khan sahab for five-seven years. Unfortunately we live in a society where writing somebody off is very fashionable. But all that said, I, as a filmmaker, will share my experience working with him. For somebody who likes to make comedies and make everyone laugh in the audience, which is my fuel, my experience with him has been exhilarating. We gave so many things to one another during the making of Khel Khel Mein.”
“He will, in my eyes and in the eyes of many people across the country, always be Akshay Kumar,” Mudassar concluded.
Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein also stars Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, and Ammy Virk. The film is in cinemas.
