Kartik Aaryan on the ‘magical’ Mere Dholna sequence from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3: ‘I knew it wouldn’t be caricaturish…’

Revealing how it was this portion that was the genesis of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Kartik said, “Right after the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, I was told the one-liner of the third part, which was essentially the climax portion. I was really excited about the idea. In fact, the entire film was written around this sequence.” Talking about how it never occurred to him that this scene could be misconstrued, Kartik credited his confidence in the team. “I knew the team would handle the portions with care. I knew it would be cinematically rich, but not caricaturish.”

Calling the sequence as the emotional core of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Kartik Aaryan pointed out that the audience were engaged till that pivotal moment, and they were convinced of the twist. “Not many expected that twist, right? So, we clung to the idea, and started the journey from that point,” said Kartik, adding, “I am glad that people are connecting their stories to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. People have been talking about it, discussing their connections with the story, etc…”

The scene, which featured him as a transgender character, became a pivotal moment in his career too. “I was doing such a dance for the first time. The song, sung by Sonu Nigam ji, added so much gravitas to the film too. In fact, we shot more dance sequences for the song, but we had to leave a lot of it out. Of course, with Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit by my side, it was a huge cinematic moment for me as an actor too. It was magical.”

On the work front, Kartik Aaryan is set to join the likes of Rahul Roy and Aditya Roy Kapoor as the star of the successful franchise, Aashiqui. He will play the lead in Aashiqui 3, which will be helmed by Anurag Basu. He also has Tu Meri Main Tera Main Teri Tu Mera in the pipeline.
