Kangana Ranaut experienced a ‘lot of upheavals’ while portraying Indira Gandhi in Emergency: ‘Couldn’t figure if it was misery or legacy’

Actor Kangana Ranaut’s directorial Emergency will also see her play former prime minister Indira Gandhi. In a recent interview, Kangana revealed that portraying such a powerful personality left an impact on her, and she underwent several emotional ups and downs while shooting for the film.

The actor told Rednool, “I think I was going through a lot of upheavals with Mrs Gandhi’s life, especially the death of her son and everything that happened. It just scarred me, deeply scarred me, whatever happened after Emergency and during Emergency in her life. And I was so deeply… I couldn’t figure if it was misery or it was legacy. I was conflicted between the two. Was her life the most miserable life or it was the most iconic life? But it had the shades of Shakespearean life, tragic yet so dramatic.”

When asked if Indira Gandhi’s life was powerful, Kangana said, “Powerful, I don’t know. I just feel that would she have regretted her life or would she have been like, ‘Oh fine, it was whatever it was’. And that is what Emergency is.”

Kangana Ranaut is confident that her film Emergency will correctly showcase Indira Gandhi’s life. She said, ” If you see the film, you will get a real insight into her mind.”

Besides Emergency, Kangana will also be seen in the Tamil film Chandramukhi 2, which will release on September 15. The actor also has Tejas in the pipeline, in which she plays the role of a fighter pilot.
