Jawan Box Office Collection Advance Booking: After almost three years, cinema halls in India are flooded with audience. Starting with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, the year has proved fruitful for the Hindi film industry. Gadar 2, Satyaprem Ki Katha, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, OMG 2, and even a smaller film like Zara Hatke Zara Bachke have brought people back to the theatres.

This boom and the frenzy across the country, led by Shah Rukh Khan, have enabled record-breaking advance sales of his upcoming release – Jawan. At the time of writing this story, a total of 7.5 lakh tickets have been sold in India, as per ticket aggregator BookMyShow

Reflecting upon the current scenario at the ticket counters, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “The overall scenario is very positive now. People are going back to the cinemas. Those who felt Hindi cinema was dead and no one wanted to watch it, I think it has completely changed the whole scenario in the last couple of months. It’s a great period to be in.”

Jawan, helmed by Atlee, features Shah Rukh in the titular role. By the looks of it, the film seems to be a vigilante drama where SRK’s character is fighting for the country with his gang of girls. The film also stars South Indian film industry stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. Deepika Padukone makes a special appearance.

Jawan to release in over 4500 screens

Film producer and trade expert, Girish Johar is confident that Jawan will cross the Rs 100 crore mark on the first day of its release (September 7). He told indianexpress.com, “The first-day expectations are skyrocketing high. I am seeing the Rs 100 cr mark easily being crossed. I am expecting a start of around $4-5 million in overseas alone, which is around Rs 40 crore and a minimum of Rs 60 crore in India”. He added that the hype around Jawan is “humongous” because of which cinema operators are planning to add more shows of the film. He confirmed that the film is releasing in over 4.5k screens and there will be morning shows of the film as well.

The national multiplexes have alone sold over 3 lakh tickets of Jawan. Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan shared on X (formerly Twitter), “SOLD 7 lac tickets & CROSSES ₹20 cr gross mark across all theatres in India. National Multiplexes alone sells 3 lac plus tickets for the opening day.” Sharing the breakup of the sales, he added, “National Multiplexes: PVR – 1,51,278, INOX – 1,06,297, CINEPOLIS – 52,615 Total SOLD Tickets – 3,10,190 Gross – ₹ 11.98 cr.”

He shared that the film has already earned Rs 20.06 crore from advance ticket sales, “City Wide: All Theatres Delhi Ncr – 54,238 – ₹ 2.57 cr Mumbai – 50,701 – ₹ 2.08 cr Bengaluru – 48,184 – ₹ 1.84 cr Hyderabad – 68,407 – ₹ 1.66 cr Kolkata – 45,977- ₹ 1.46 cr Chennai – 60,415- ₹ 1.06 cr India Wide All Theatres SOLD Tickets -7,27,200 Gross – ₹ 20.06 cr [Excluding Blocked Seats].”

While trade experts are confident about Jawan taking over from Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan as the biggest opener, Taran Adarsh is not expecting a figure lesser than Rs 65-70 crore for the musical-actioner on its opening day. “It will be like a new benchmark,” he said.

With Jawan, Shah Rukh is tapping into the southern territory, an audience he never catered to before. Girish Johar is confident that the actor, who is probably in the best phase of his career right now, will achieve what he intends to with Jawan. He opined, “Whatever Shah Rukh has intended to achieve with this particular film, he will realise it by making inroads into the hearts of hardcore South Indian film fanatics as well.”

Jawan has good buzz in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka

The buzz for SRK’s Jawan in Tamil Nadu is said to be on par with that of a local star, according to film journalist and cinema tracker Rajasekar. “It feels that way because of Atlee, who has given many hits with Vijay here. Even in two-tier districts like Tirunelveli, the film has gotten a decent opening… this is based on the booking. Usually, for Hindi films, the booking will be good only in areas like Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Coimbatore. But for Jawan, there’s a good buzz in other places as well, which is a good sign. Even in Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka, the buzz is far better when compared to other Hindi films so far. I think for Hindi film, Jawan might get the best opening day figure.”

“However, it is hard to predict the first-day collection because there will be a lot of walk-in crowds for films like this. So, one can’t be sure but Vijay Deverakonda’s Kushi did about one crore in Tamil Nadu. So, Jawan should easily do Rs 4-5 crore. If you ask about the entire South, it should do around Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore,” he added.

When asked if the decision to conduct the pre-release event played a crucial part in the buzz, Rajasekar said, “Even before the event, there was a good expectation for the film. But the event played a part. Since it was broadcast on Sun TV which has a huge viewership in the state, it will further help. Jailer’s buzz went up sharply after the audio launch was out on the channel. Though Jawan will not have such a big hype like Rajinikanth film here, it will certainly make a difference.”

Jawan to earn Rs 5-7 crore in Tamil Nadu

Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan’s still.

Ramesh Bala estimates a figure of Rs 5-7 crore as the opening day collection of Jawan in Tamil Nadu. “Jawan is 90 per cent Tamil except for SRK. The trailer has however received a mixed review down here. It will easily be released in 400 theatres across the state. It will beat all the previous records of Tamil-dubbed Hindi movies like Krish, Padmavat, and Dangal. It will become the best Hindi movie in Tamil Nadu, in terms of box office collection.”

Girish Johar also revealed that the 30-odd single-screen cinemas in the Hindi belt, which were shut down in the pandemic, have opened just after looking at the craze around Jawan. “I am pretty confident that this is a big breather for the industry and the fraternity as a whole,” he said. The film is also expected to benefit from the three-day holiday in the national capital owing to the G20 summit.

Ticket aggregator BookMyShow has shared that the audience has shown maximum interest in the Hindi version of the film and single-screen cinemas are also witnessing a good response. However, it also mentioned that the Hindi language version of the film has seen maximum interest from Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas, BookMyShow said, “The upcoming weekend with a power-packed release is poised to welcome a multitude of cinema enthusiasts from all corners of the country, as it brings forth an exciting cinematic experience encompassing action, drama and thrills in a vivacious mix of languages.”
