When Jackie Shroff was shocked after winning an award for Parinda, went up on stage with Tiger sleeping in his arms
Jackie Shroff recalled that he went up on the stage after winning an award for Parinda with a sleeping Tiger in his arms.

Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor starrer Parinda emerged as one of the most acclaimed films of 1989. Aside from winning multiple National Film Awards and being India’s contender for the Academy Awards, Parinda also scored an award for Jackie Shroff in the Best Actor category at Filmfare Awards. But, Jackie, who had not won any awards before Parinda, was not expecting to win an award this time as well.
In an earlier interview on the TV show Yaaron Ki Baraat, Jackie recalled that he was “shocked” after he won the award. He recalled, “Tiger’s mother had fed him and gave him to me in my arms and he was asleep. I knew I wouldn’t get the award and suddenly, they announced my name. I was so shocked that I went up on the stage with Tiger in my arms.” Jackie had a laugh about the incident.
In an earlier interview to celebrate 30 years of the film, Jackie Shroff had shared that during the film, he slapped Anil Kapoor 17 times for a particular scene. “He wanted to express that his elder brother had slapped him. The first shot was okayed by the director and he got the right expression as well. But he said – no I want one more. I slapped him. He again said one more. I slapped him 17 times for the scene. I couldn’t just act as if I was slapping him. I had to slap him as one couldn’t get his reaction if you slapped him in the air,” he shared.
Parinda won the National Film Award for Best Editing and Best Supporting Actor, which was awarded to Nana Patekar. At the Filmfare Awards, Parinda also won in the Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Editing categories.
