A junior choreographer told the police that Patekar and Dutta weren’t dancing together and that no one had told her that the dance steps had been changed. “They were to enact the same dance movements but they weren’t dancing close to each other,” she told the police.
In his statement to police, Patekar claimed that he did not know how to dance and that it had taken him 25 to 30 attempts to get a hold of his steps. Patekar also said he and Dutta did not dance together and added that there was some space between them when the song was being shot.
In March, 2008, Dutta had been contracted to shoot an “item” song for the film Horn Ok Pleassss at a studio in Goregaon with Patekar. In her complaint, Dutta alleged that Patekar, who was not part of the song, touched her inappropriately on the pretext of teaching her to dance.
Dutta had come out against Patekar with sexual harassment charges in October last year, thus fuelling the #MeToo movement in Bollywood. "No proof to prosecute actor Nana Patekar in Tanushree Dutta molestation case," the police told a local court.
The 2007 comedy film Welcome, directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Firoz A Nadiadwala had Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Feroz Khan, Kapoor, Patekar, Rawal and Mallika Sherawat. The film was a blockbuster.
