Between 2018 and 2024, Shoojit Sircar directed two other films, Gulabo Sitabo and Sardar Udham, but both films released directly on OTT because of the pandemic. His 2018 release, October, was his last big screen release, starring Varun Dhawan. The film had opened to good reviews with an opening day collection of Rs 4.25 crore and earned Rs 39.06 crore nett, as per Bollywood Hungama.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan was last seen in Ghoomer, opposite Saiyami Kher. The movie received positive reviews, but failed to earn at the box office. The film earned Rs 85 lakh on opening day, and earned Rs 7.15 crore globally, according to Sacnilk. Before this, Abhishek’s lowest opener was 2004’s Naach, which made Rs 42 lakh on opening day.

I Want To Talk, written by Ritesh Shah, is based on a real-life story where Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of Arjun Sen, an NRI, who is a cancer survivor. The film also navigates his journey with his daughter in the film. Apart from Abhishek Bachchan, the film also stars Ahilya Bamroo, Johny Lever and Banita Sandhu in pivotal roles.
