Emraan Hashmi, once dubbed as the ‘serial kisser’ of Bollywood for his bold roles in films like Murder, Aksar and Crook, has consciously attempted to distance himself from this label over the years. In a recent interview, the actor admitted that despite his efforts to minimize sensual scenes in his films, a certain image had already been established in the minds of the audience, which some producers exploited.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Emraan was questioned about why he had stopped doing kissing scenes in films and whether he had ever personally advocated for such scenes. He responded, “It’s the voice of my wife and I listen to that. I haven’t added any kissing scenes in my films. In fact, from the beginning I wanted to tone it down in films but an image of mine was created and a lot of producers took advantage of that. It became a staple thing to please the audience. When I see my films, I honestly feel that in some places those scenes weren’t required but it was an awakening for an audience also. It was a lead for cinema but I received the flak.”

When questioned if his wife felt insecure about him performing kissing scenes, the Murder actor admitted, “Of course she did but not anymore because I don’t do those kind of scenes anymore.” Emraan was countered saying he has done kissing scene in Showtime. He replied to that saying, “She hasn’t seen the show yet. So, she will be insecure after watching it (laughs).”

Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming show Showtime delves into the harsh realities and politics of the Hindi film industry. Produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Somen Mishra, and Mihir Desai, the show is directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar. It will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar.
