This year’s MET Gala has been historic for India. Bollywood’s King, Shah Rukh Khan, charmed everyone with his looks, Kiara Advani flaunted her baby bump, Priyanka Chopra shined alongside Nick Jonas, and Diljit Dosanjh made history by becoming the first turbaned actor-singer to walk the MET Gala red carpet. The singer was seated with esteemed celebrities, including international pop star Shakira, and they even traveled together in a limo. In a video shared by Shakira, she is seen giving a shout-out to Diljit, which sent fans into a frenzy.

The clip shows Diljit chilling with Shakira and other celebrities, including Nicole Scherzinger, Tessa Thompson, and designer Prabal Gurung, who designed Diljit’s iconic look of the night. In the clip that Shakira shared on her Instagram account, she is seen introducing every celebrity in the van. However, she gave a special shout-out to Diljit and, through him, gave a shout-out to India. She said, “Diljit say hi to India. Hi India.” Being his shy self, Diljit responded to Shakira with folded hands and smiled.

Shakira’s video was later shared by Diljit’s fan club, which he reshared on his Instagram story. Take a look:

Diljit Dosanjh is ‘learning English’

Diljit also shared other glimpses from his journey to the MET Gala with the celebrities. In one clip, Nicole Scherzinger is seen giving a behind-the-scenes look at how Shakira’s giant gown is being fixed while on the run. In between the same, she notices Diljit using ChatGPT. When she asks him, he humbly says, “I am learning English.”

Diljit Dosanjh’s MET Gala 2025 outfit honours his heritage

At the MET Gala 2025, Diljit proudly showcased his history and culture. The singer rocked a Maharaja look, which was a nod to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. His cape had an embroidery of the Mool Mantra in Gurmukhi script, alongside a golden map of Punjab. Diljit wore an ivory and gold sherwani, along with a tehmat, bejewelled turban adorned with a white ‘kalgi’ and a lion-headed, jewel-studded kirpan.
