Director Dharmesh Darshan, known for the 2000 hit film Dhadkan, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Shilpa Shetty, shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes story related to Akshay. Darshan recounted an incident during the shooting of Dhadkan when Akshay, who had already established himself as an action hero, performed a daring stunt that left the director apprehensive and scared.

Detailing the incident, Dharmesh explained,”The actors submitted completely while shooting Dhadkan. One day we were shooting for the song “Na Na Karte Pyaar”. On one sequence of the song, a plane was supposed to go over the head of Akshay and Shilpa. We were standing at a distance with the camera, because the camera can’t stand so close to the plane. I was a little scared while shooting that scene because if some accident happens, the director gets the blame. I wanted them to keep a distance but Akshay ji used to do stunts. He took Shilpa and the plane just missed him by a centimeter. I thought I was dead. He came to me and asked me if I liked the shot and I said, ‘This is not a Dhadkan shot, this is a Khiladi shot.'”

After the incident, Akshay Kumar approached Dharmesh Darshan and agreed to submit himself completely to the director’s approach. He said, “After that I just clammed. Akshay took me to the corner and asked me what happened. I told him, ‘You are disturbing me. Shilpa and Suniel listen to me. But this shot was so physically lethal that I am scared now.’ He told me, ‘I am like Raj Kapoor’s guitar in Barsaat, you take me anywhere I will bend.’ I told this story to Twinkle Khanna and she couldn’t believe.”

Dhadkan was inspired by the novel Wuthering Heights and featured Parmeet Sethi, Kiran Kumar, Sushma Seth, and Manjeet Kullar in supporting roles. The film received generally positive reviews and emerged as a commercial success. Its music album was the second best-selling album of the year after Mohabbatein.
