Has Deepika Padukone really hiked her fees for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati?

A source close to Deepika Padukone confirmed to IndianExpress.com that the rumours were indeed not true.

Deepika Padukone, Padmavati, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone Padmavati, Rumours on Deepika Padukone hiking her fees for Padmavati is false.

Recently rumours suggested that National Award-winning director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has teamed up with actress Deepika Padukone again for another period drama, Padmavati. It was also reported that Deepika has demanded a fatter cheque for doing the movie.

The rumours did not sound extremely unbelievable. Both Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone have produced excellent films for the past couple of years ( Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela) and going by Deepika’s rise in popularity in Bollywood and Hollywood, it’s natural for her to expect more money. However, given the close relationship of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika, we decided to check if the rumours were true.

A source close to Deepika Padukone confirmed to IndianExpress.com that the rumours were indeed not true. Deepika is yet to sign Padmavati and money has not been discussed in the regard.

Deepika is riding a career high. In 2015 itself, Deepika delivered three hits — Piku, Bajirao Mastani and Tamasha. She is making her Hollywood debut xXx: The Return of Xander Cage alongside Vin Diesel.

As of now, the highest paid actress, by her own admission, in Bollywood is Kangana Ranaut. The Tanu Weds Manu star had reportedly got Rs 11 crore for a film. Despite that being a fat pay cheque, it is much less than what actors get in Bollywood.

Padmavati, even before it begins, has been besieged by rumours. Earlier, buzz said that Deepika had refused to work with Vicky Kaushal. The Masaan actor was supposed to play Deepika’s husband with whom she supposedly had intimate scenes.
