Chhaava box office collection day 22: Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster to overtake Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal on Sunday, will target Gadar 2
Chhaava box office collection day 22: With Rs 492.05 crore in the bank, Vicky Kaushal's film is Rs 33 crore short of entering the list of top 10 highest-grossing Indian films

Chhaava box office collection day 22: Call it strategy or sheer luck, one of the better moves made by the producers of Vicky Kaushal’s historical blockbuster, Chhaava, was to delay the release of its dubbed versions. After playing for three weeks in the north, the film was released in Telugu, giving it a solid shot in the arm. On its 22nd day in cinemas, Chhaava made Rs 6.25 crore in its Hindi version, the Telugu version, which was released on Friday, made Rs 2.25 crore. With its fourth Friday numbers, Chhaava has amassed Rs 492.05 crore, as per industry tracker site Sacnilk.

The lack of competition in the Hindi markets, and with no new major releases planned till Eid when Salman Khan will be back with AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar, will ensure that Chhaava will be the go-to option for many who want to watch a film in the theatres. With an overall 11.39% occupancy for its Hindi version, the Telugu version had an impressive 32.77 % occupancy spread across 600-odd shows. This is quite impressive, mainly because it is not often that a Hindi film’s dubbed version delivers such numbers. The audiences in the South are so used to watching Hindi films in the original language that they’ve never warranted a dubbed version to be released. But times are changing, and it is interesting to see where this trend will take Hindi cinema, especially films that have potential to reach through newer markets.
With Rs 492.05 crores in its domestic nett collections, the film is Rs 33 crore short of entering the list of top 10 highest-grossing Indian films. The 10th position is currently held by Gadar 2. Interestingly, the film is at the eighth position in the highest-grossing Hindi films, and is just Rs 13 crores short of the next in the list, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. Considering the strong showing of Chhaava every weekend, the Animal numbers will be surpassed by Sunday if not earlier. Interestingly, Animal’s Telugu version made an impressive Rs 45.14 crore in its run courtesy the Telugu base of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and actor Rashmika Mandanna.
The gap being considerably less between the other movies in the list, and Rs 100 crores separating the No 2 film, Stree 2, and Chhaava at No 8, there are heavy chances that Chhaava juggernaut might just roll up the ladder to become the highest-grossing direct Hindi film of all time beating films like Stree 2, Jawan, Pathaan, and Gadar 2.
