Golmaal Again sets second highest opening for a Bollywood film in 2017.

Golmaal Again, the fourth film of the franchise that started in 2006, has earned close to Rs 30.14 crore on Day 1. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#GolmaalAgain has an EARTH-SHATTERING Day 1… The cast-team combo + franchise + hype + holiday translates into FANTABULOUS biz…Tsunami at the BO… #GolmaalAgain puts up SENSATIONAL numbers… Fri ₹ 30.14 cr… India biz… 👍👍👍👍👍”

In less than a decade, the Golmaal films have consistently provided laughter dose to their audience. Golmaal Again’s star cast includes names like Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemmu, Prakash Raj and Neil Nitin Mukesh among others.

In a chat with indianexpress.com, film distributor Akshaye Rathi had earlier said, “I can easily predict the film to do around Rs 22 crores to Rs 25 crores on day one and by the weekend, the numbers would go up to Rs 75 crores easily. What I really like about this Diwali is that Bollywood is offering us two films to entertain and both the films cater to different audiences. Secret Superstar might be an Aamir film but Golmaal being a mass entertainer will not face any issue with the competitor. In fact, Golmaal has been Ajay Devgn’s highest grossing films and since it is releasing a day after Diwali, there is no doubt the film would see insane boost.”

In her review of the film, Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta had said, “For someone like me, no fan of the franchise, there’s usually very little to like in the ‘Golmaal’ films. And this time around too, I had resigned myself to a couple of hours of deja-view. But I have to say that the addition of a few new faces, and moving the location from the beaches of Goa to the green slopes of Ooty, helped freshen things up. And though there were the familiar risible lines about people who can’t speak, and a creepy running thread about older men and girls young enough to be their daughter, the usual slew of jokes were not as tasteless. A couple led to actual laughter.”
