Arbaaz Khan reveals what Salim Khan told them when he married Helen: ‘You may be on your mother’s side but…’

In an interview with ETimes, Arbaaz said all the siblings are close to “Helen Aunty”, as he still prefers to call her. Arbaaz said Helen is “obviously our mother” and added that the veteran is an “integral part” of their lives.

Arbaaz went down the memory lane and said the kids were “kept away from some of the drama” that must have happened in their parents’ lives but realised what the equation will be when Helen was being introduced to the family’s changing dynamics.

“And my father asked us only one thing. He said, ‘Dekho, I know that you may be on your mother’s side. You may love your mother more than anything. You can probably never love her (Helen) as much as you love your mother. But one thing I expect from you is to respect her. Show her the same respect, because you have to accept that she’s a part of my life. And if you have any love and regard for me, you should accept that this is the reality now’.”

Over the years, Arbaaz said, his relationship with Helen has evolved and that the veteran has not only been wonderful but also has never tried to “disrupt our family.” Explaining the family situation, Arbaaz revealed that Helen had her own time with Salim, who in turn never “neglected” the children or his family.

“He never abandoned us because he had another person in his life or another woman in his life. And it was not easy for my mother and neither for us as well. But its very difficult to put a finger on how things worked out or why they worked out,” he added.
