Anurag Basu reveals Aashiqui 3 will get a new title; denies rumours of Triptii Dimri’s exit over ‘over-sexualized’ image: ‘Ask her too what happened’

Anurag Basu says Kartik Aaryan-starrer Triptii Dimri’s exit from Aashiqui 3 was due to a scheduling conflict, not her 'overtly sexualized' image.

Triptii DimriAnurag Basu talks about Triptii Dimri's exit from Aashiqui 3.

It was rumoured that Triptii Dimri was dropped from Anurag Basu’s Aashiqui 3 due to her “overtly sexualized” and “too exposed” image after starring in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal and the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Bad Newz. Recently, Anurag addressed these speculations and clarified that the issue was not Triptii’s image but a scheduling conflict. The filmmaker also revealed that Aashiqui 3 will undergo a title change, with the new title set to be announced soon.

Speaking to HT City, Anurag shared that the makers will unveil the film’s new female lead within a week. He said, “I don’t know what’s the film called right now, the shoot starts this month. We have not finalised the female lead right now, it will be announced in a week.” While the female lead is yet to be confirmed, Kartik Aaryan has already been cast in the lead role. Triptii and Kartik previously worked together in the recent blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

Anurag Basu, who referred to Triptii Dimri as his “best friend,” explained the real reason behind her exit from the film. He stated, “Image was not the reason. I am the last person to judge an actor on the basis of the other characters they have played on screen. Aashiqui was not even the story anymore… I don’t know the source of these stories which came out.”

He added, “Most important thing is dates. Triptii is shooting for a film with Vishal Bhardwaj, and my film goes on floors this month too. She is still my best friend, I really like her as an actress. You should ask her too what happened.”

Earlier, Anurag Basu had also refuted claims that Triptii Dimri’s bold scenes in Animal led to her exit from Aashiqui 3. In an interaction with Mid-Day, when asked whether she was dropped due to her “purity in demeanour,” Anurag dismissed the speculation, saying, “That’s not true,” and added, “Triptii knows it too.”

Meanwhile, Triptii is currently busy shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film Arjun Ustara, in which she stars opposite Shahid Kapoor. The Bulbbul actor also has Karan Johar’s Dhadak 2 in the pipeline, where she will be seen alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi.
