Anil Kapoor reveals wife Sunita declared she won’t take any gold jewellery from her parents at their wedding: ‘She said I’ll bring one set of clothes’

Anil Kapoor recently revealed that his wife Sunita Kapoor declared she wouldn't bring any jewellery from her family after their marriage.

Anil Kapoor, who has been married to Sunita Kapoor for 40 years, recently opened up about their relationship at an event in Jaipur. The actor shared that although his wife chose to be a stay-at-home mom, she made it clear early on that it was her personal decision and not something she did for the actor. Anil also revealed that Sunita declared she wouldn’t bring any jewellery from her family after their marriage, insisting that he would have to buy everything for her.

Speaking at the FICCI FLO Jaipur Chapter, Anil recalled how, during the early years of their marriage, Sunita would often decorate their house with flowers. While he admitted that he initially failed to notice her efforts, he later became aware of how beautifully the house was adorned each time he returned home after a shoot. Curious, he finally asked his wife about it. “Since I married her, the whole house would be decorated whenever I came back from shooting outdoors. She always told me, ‘I am not doing it for you. I am doing it for myself. I look after myself not for you, I do it for myself. Don’t be mistaken that I am taking care of the house for you, I am doing it for myself’,” he said.

Anil further revealed that Sunita was a working professional when they met and had clearly expressed her ideas in terms of taking money or other expensive gifts from her parents during the wedding ceremonies. “She told me before the marriage, ‘When I will come to your home after marriage, I will come with one set of clothes and I won’t bring any jewellery with me. Whatever it is, you will have to buy it for me.” Anil added that the only piece of jewellery Sunita ever gave him was his wedding ring.

In May, Anil and Sunita celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion, Anil shared unseen photos from their wedding ceremony along with a heartfelt note dedicated to his wife. Referring to Sunita as his “rock,” Anil reminisced about the 11 years they spent together before marriage, followed by four decades of matrimony. He shared how they had “created countless memories” over the years, writing, “Our marriage has been a tapestry of adventures, challenges, and triumphs, all woven together with the threads of unwavering love and mutual respect. You’ve stood by me through thick and thin, and your strength, grace, and compassion have always inspired me to be a better man. Thank you for your endless support, your wisdom, and your boundless love.”

Anil and Sunita are parents to actors Sonam Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor and producer Rhea Kapoor.
