When Amitabh Bachchan reflected on all the controversies he’s been involved in: ‘I’m ready to go to jail if they prove it’
In an old interview, Amitabh Bachchan said that growing up in a family where you're a celebrity from the day you're born makes you accustomed to a certain level of scrutiny.

Amitabh Bachchan has been involved in several controversies over the years, and in an appearance on The RKB Show in the mid-2000s, the actor addressed many of them, one by one. He spoke at length about his involvement in a land dispute, and said that he was prepared to go to jail if proven that he’d done wrong.
In the interview, he was also asked how his family deals with all the attacks that are hurled at him. Amitabh said in Hindi, “When you’ve been born in a family where you are considered a celebrity from the day you’re born… I always say that I was born a public figure. My father was well-regarded in the world of Hindi literature, and they’d introduce me as Mr Bachchan’s son wherever I went. We’ve grown up in such an environment, we know how things work. People talk, they criticise you, they taunt you… It’s fine. It’s our life, it’s part and parcel of being a celebrity or a public figure.”
He added, “But yes, if there are accusations which are beyond any kind of redemption, then even a regular person wouldn’t believe them… I tell my son, do what you want to in life, but first, be a good person.”
Amitabh was speaking at a time when he was charged with land forgery, after the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh awarded him a piece of land, which was disputed when the Bahujan Samaj Party came to power. Amitabh refuted all allegations, and pointed to the questionable timing of the case. Reacting to the controversies he had become involved in, he said, “I am a regular person. What would they gain by dragging me in the mud? Let’s assume that they’re right, that the land is not mine and that I obtained it illegally, they’ll throw me in jail? Then I’ll go to jail. But what would the point be? I am not a politician, nor am I interested in joining politics.”
In 2009, he was given a clean chit in the land dispute by committee constituted by Barabanki district administration.
