When Alia Bhatt spoke about her parents Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan’s affair while he was married to Kiran Bhatt: ‘Infidelity exists’

In a 2019 interview with The Asian Age, Alia had said, “My father met my mother because he had an extramarital affair. I am not as black and white about life; sometimes in life, things happen for a reason. Of course, you would not want to propagate infidelity and I don’t propagate it, but I understand the nature of human — it’s not always that easy and it is something that’s prevalent.”

Mahesh and Soni had been secretly dating before getting married in 1986. Before meeting Soni, the filmmaker was married Kiran Bhatt. Actor Pooja Bhatt and her brother Rahul Bhatt are their children. Mahesh also had an affair with yesteryear actor Parveen Babi.

Alia, in the same interview, had urged that one should not judge human relationships. She had said, “You can’t say it (infidelity) doesn’t exist or it can’t exist. It does! So try and understand it, look at it in a different way, or disagree with it, but have some perspective over it and don’t turn your head away.”

This particular interview recently landed on Reddit, where some people have gone and lashed out at Mahesh for cheating on Kiran Bhatt, some have lauded Alia’s mature outlook towards love and the institution of marriage. One person commented, “Even if you end a relationship you already have cheated as you are emotionally invested in someone else. It won’t lessen the pain. Cheating is bad but I agree with what she said. It’s a mature way of dealing with her emotions,” whereas yet another person wrote, “Exactly. I see Alia’s point of view.”

Alia and Ranbir tied the knot in April 2022 after seeing each other for a few years, and within a year they embraced parenthood  by welcoming Raha in November 2022.
