Akshay Kumar says history books needs to be corrected: ‘We read about Akbar or Aurangzeb but not about our own heroes’
Akshay Kumar made the statement ahead of the release of his film Sky Force, which is based on a true story. Akshay shared he takes up films about unsung heroes because they don't appear in history books.

In the past few years, Akshay Kumar has starred in various biopics. It all began back in 2018 when he played Lakshmi Kant Chauhan in the movie Pad Man. He then starred in biopics like Gold (2018), Kesari (2019), Samrat Prithviraj (2022), Mission Raniganj (2023), Sarfira (2024), and now Sky Force, which is scheduled to release on January 24.
Sky Force too is based on true stories. It will follow the story of India’s retaliatory attack on the Sargodha airbase of Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965. The movie will star Akshay in the role of Wing Commander KO Ajuha (inspired by real-life hero OP Taneja) and debutant Veer Pahariya as T Vijaya (inspired by Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya). While some of these biopics worked for the actor, others flopped massively. Yet he continues to do such roles. Now, Akshay has shared why he choses to do these films.
In an interview with CNN-News18 Showsha, Akshay Kumar shared he takes up films which should have ideally been part of school text books. He said, “There are so many things which are not there in the books. I intentionally play roles which are not a part of our books. I want to do this. They are all unknown heroes. People do not know anything about them because nobody goes deep. I go for these kinds of roles.”
The actor further complained about children’s history books. He said, “A lot of things there need to be corrected. We read about Akbar or Aurangzeb but do not read about our own heroes. They need to be mentioned. There are so many stories from the Army. So many people have been honoured with the Param Veer Chakra. I think history needs to be corrected and these kinds of leaders should be brought in and told to our generation.”
Sky Force, directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapoor, also stars Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur. Stree 2 producer Dinesh Vijan is backing the film under his banner Maddock Films.
