Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s outfit with Bhagavada Gita shloka gets stepped on by Helen Mirren at Cannes red carpet. See here
Aishwarya Rai's white cape had a Sanskrit shloka from the Bhagavad Gita embroidered on it. Aishwarya posed with Helen Mirren and Cara Delevingne on the red carpet.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is currently attending the 78th Cannes Film Festival in France, walked the red carpet for the second time on Thursday. Wearing a custom Gaurav Gupta outfit for the premiere of La Venue de L’avenir (Colors of Time), Aishwarya’s cape had a Sanskrit shloka from the Bhagavada Gita written on it. The shloka was embroidered on the white cape which she wore on the top of her black dress, and was placed near the back of her neck.
The designer spoke about the dress in a social media post, where he named the outfit ‘Heiress of Clam’ and said that this was “a custom creation imagined in a draped form and spiritual detail.” He further wrote, “The gown is hand-embroidered with an abstract rendition of the cosmos in bursts of silver, gold, charcoal, and black, accented with micro glass crystals to capture dimension and light.”
Talking about the shloka, he wrote, “Enveloping her is a Banarasi brocade cape handwoven in Varanasi, India, inscribed with a Sanskrit shloka from the Bhagavad Gita.” He then wrote the shloka in Sanskrit: “Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani.” He also translated the shloka, “You have a right to perform your actions, but not to the fruits of those actions. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.”

As Aishwarya was posing on the red carpet, she was joined by Cara Delevingne and Helen Mirre. The three of then then proceeded to pose together but since Aishwarya’s cape was trailing behind her on the carpet, Helen accidentally stepped on it.

Aishwarya’s looks at this edition of the festival seem to highlight her Indian roots. Her first look, an ivory saree by Manish Malhotra, saw her wearing a thick layer of sindoor on her forehead. While Aishwarya has worn sarees on international platforms before, she hasn’t worn a saree at Cannes for many years now. Even her second outfit, the black gown with a white cape, highlighted her Indian roots with the shloka on the back.

A few days ago, Diljit Dosanjh wore a custom Prabal Gurung outfit at the Met Gala. Even his outfit had the map of Punjab and the Gurumukhi alphabets embroidered on the back of his cape, to highlight his roots.
