'Aishwarya Rai runs the Bachchan house, hasn't moved to mother's home': Prahlad Kakkar dismisses Aishwarya-Abhishek separation rumours

Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar spoke about the rumours of a rift between celebrity couple Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, and revealed the only reason why she spends her days at her mother's house.

Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar, who continues to live in the same building as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s original house in Mumbai, said that she spends her days there because her mother is unwell, not because she has moved out of her in-laws house. Rumours have been rife in recent months about the status of Aishwarya’s relationship with her husband, Abhishek Bachchan. They tied the knot in a secretive ceremony at the Bachchans’ home in Mumbai, and welcomed their first child, daughter Aaradhya, in 2011. In a new interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Prahlad Kakkar said that Aishwarya has a few hours to kill after she drops Aaradhya to school, which she chooses to spend with her mother.

Asked about the recent rumours, Prahlad said, “I don’t think there is any truth (to them). I live in the same building, and I know how much time Aish spends in the building, and there’s a valid reason for that. Her mother is unwell. She drops her daughter to the Ambani school, and she has to pick her up at 1 pm, so she has three hours to kill. She spends those three hours with her mother. Then she picks up her daughter and goes home.”

Prahlad described the rumours of Aishwarya having moved out of the Bachchans’ house and back in with her mother as ‘garbage’. When the specific rumours of Aishwarya not getting along with Jaya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan were brought up, Prahlad said, “So what? She’s still the bahu of the house. She still runs the house.” He said that he didn’t see a reason to ask Aishwarya about the rumours on one of her visits to her original house, because he knew ‘there was no truth to it’.

He continued, “Everyone is saying she’s escaping from her marriage and living with her mother. But she’s only visiting her mother in the mornings while her daughter is at school. Sundays she didn’t come. I knew she is very close to her mother and was very concerned about her. Sometimes, Abhishek also came. So what’s the big deal? Why would he come if she was running away from him?” Prahlad, who mentored Aishwarya early in her career and witnessed her evolution from close quarters, praised her and Abhishek for never commenting on the rumours. “She has always maintained her dignity, right through her career,” he said.

Rumours about Abhishek and Aishwarya have been swirling for a while; they were exacerbated by a sharp decline in their joint public appearances together, and when Abhishek once ‘liked’ a post about divorce on social media. However, they attended a family wedding, Aaradhya’s school function, and Anant Ambani’s wedding festivities together. They seemingly put the rumours to rest when they celebrated their 18th anniversary together with Aaradhya.
