Actor Abhishek Bachchan spoke about the impact that his upcoming film, I Want to Talk, had on his relationship with daughter Aaradhya, if any. In a conversation with the film’s director, Shoojit Sircar, he said that his films rarely influence his personal life, although his personal life certainly influences the kind of films he takes on. Abhishek also alluded to promises that fathers make to their daughters, and said that it is the dream of many to see their daughters married.

Shoojit said that making the film opened his eyes about the bond that he shares with his daughter, and asked Abhishek if it had a similar impact on him. The actor replied, “No. The impressions my films have on my personal life happen before the film. I don’t remember any film of mine, or any character that I’ve played, influencing my private life. Once I’m on the film, it’s about being as truthful to the character as possible.”

Mera pehle hota hai (It happens before).” In the drama, Abhishek plays a man given 100 days to live after being diagnosed with cancer. The film is based on a real-life person.

Drawing parallels to the character’s experiences, Abhishek continued, “The fact that Arjun is given 100 days to live, coupled with what his daughter told him, ‘Will you dance at my wedding?’… For any father, giving your daughter away is one of the high points of your life. It’s something that you look forward to, you plan for, whatever your relation with your child is… His motivation to be there for his kid, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes because of a promise he made, is something that resonated with me. That’s one of the reasons I chose… My daughter is still much younger than (the character), but for a father to feel that emotion of ‘I need to do whatever it takes to be there for my daughter’, is one of the main reasons for deciding…”

Abhishek’s daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, recently turned 13. She was born in 2011, four years after Abhishek tied the knot with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. I Want to Talk will be released in theatres on Friday.
