When the government announced the implementation of CUET last year, 18-year-old Anousha Parashar was distressed as she felt that the effort she had put in for board exams will not reap anything. She had already given two board exams in one year and didn’t want to sit for another paper. However, it was unavoidable as only through CUET she could get admission to her dream college.
Parashar scored 97 per cent marks in Class 12 board exams and a perfect 800 out of 800 marks in CUET UG 2022. She tells indianexpress.com how she prepared for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). She is currently pursuing BA (Hons) from Lady Shri Ram College.
Given a lot of mock tests
Since the syllabus of CUET was the same as of the CBSE board exams, I did not join any coaching centre but I took a lot of mock tests. I referred to mock tests from Career Launchers and Top Rankers. And, I always put a timer for these tests for time management.
Also, since our term one board exam had MCQs, I had a fair idea about the pattern and how to attempt a question.
How I gathered study material
Since CUET was happening for the first time, my teachers and seniors did not have much clue about how to prepare for the exam so I did my own research.
During my boards, I focussed only on my boards and then began the preparation for CUET. Though the syllabus for both exams was the same, the approach was different.
My opinion on CUET
While I was a little apprehensive, I do feel now that the CUET is a good step by the government. I believe CBSE has a stricter marking system than other boards and CUET brings everyone to the same level. It’s a common platform for all boards. The concept of CUET is good and flexible, students can fill in forms for any combination. Students have more options for everything.
However, I did face technical glitches during the second shift. And many students were informed that their exam has been postponed on the day of the exam and they had to return from the exam centre, I hope that doesn’t happen this time.
CUET was easier than boards
I felt CUET was easier than boards in subjects like English, it had basic questions like identifying verbs, adverbs, etc. Comprehension questions were also easy.
