NIRF 2025 Rankings: Top engineering college, best university, MBA and medical college; complete list

Last year, NIRF India ranking was announced on August 12, while in 2023, it was announced on June 5. In 2022, 2021 and 2020, the NIRF rankings were released on July 15, September 9 and June 11, respectively.

The Ministry of Education on September 4 announced the annual National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025. NIRF India Rankings lists top universities and colleges in India.

The NIRF India Ranking 2025 is announced for 17 categories — overall, universities, colleges, SDGs, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, open university, skill university, and state public university.

The NIRF parameters and the weighted averages adopted to derive the rankings differ for all the categories. The broad categories adopted to rank the colleges, universities and institutes include teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity and peer perception.

Last year, NIRF India ranking was announced on August 12, while in 2023, it was announced on June 5. In 2022, 2021 and 2020, the NIRF rankings were released on July 15, September 9 and June 11, respectively.

In NIRF Rankings 2024, IIT Madras was placed as the best institute in the overall and engineering categories. In the universities and research categories, IISc Bangalore was ranked at one. In the architecture and planning category, IIT Roorkee was placed at the top. Under innovation, IIT Bombay topped and Hindu College was the best college.

IIM Ahmedabad topped in the management category, followed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode in the second and third places, respectively.

Jamia Handard was the best in the pharmacy category, AIIMS New Delhi was the best medical college, and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences was the best dental college. 

NLSIU Bengaluru was placed as the best law institute followed by NLU Delhi in the second and Hyderabad’s Nalsar University of Law at the third.

In agriculture and allied sectors, Indian Agricultural Research Institute was ranked at first.

In the open university, skill university and state public university categories, IGNOU, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (Formerly Symbiosis Skill and Open University) and Anna University, respectively topped.
