The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has begun the NEET UG counselling process for the state’s medical colleges. According to the official website of the Directorate of Medical Education, there are 22 medical institutions under its jurisdiction. The official website for the state’s NEET UG counselling is cetonline.karnataka.gov.in. The NEET UG counselling is underway for 85 per cent state quota and 100 per cent private college seats in Karnataka.
There are various documents that students need during the NEET UG counselling process, which include the admit card and scorecard, pass certificates and mark sheets from both Class 10 and Class 12, and a Karnataka domicile certificate.
If applicable, candidates should also bring a category certificate and a PwD certificate. A cumulative marks card may be required in certain cases. Additionally, students should carry two passport-size photographs, a printed copy of the counselling application, a valid photo ID such as Aadhaar or passport, and a signed KEA declaration form.
August 21: Display of seat matrix including CHOICE 3, CHOICE 4, forfeited, cancelled, and newly added seats, if any.
August 21 to August 25: Rearrangement of options — modify, delete or re-order choices. Ayurveda options entry also allowed for eligible candidates.
August 23: Last date to surrender first round allotted seat in person at KEA, Bangalore.
August 29: Publication of second round seat allotment mock/provisional results.

By the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 released by the Ministry of Education, the following medical colleges in Karnataka are ranked:
– Rank 4: National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore
– Rank 9: Kasturba Medical College, Manipal
– Rank 28: St. John’s Medical College
– Rank 33: Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore
– Rank 39 JSS: Medical College, Mysore
– Rank 46: M. S. Ramaiah Medical College
These six medical colleges in Karnataka are ranked in the NIRF 2024. As of now, the Ministry of Education has yet to release the 2025 rankings.
Every state has a quota of seats in medical colleges reserved for local residents, while the remaining seats are allotted to students from outside the state. Before applying to any medical college in Karnataka for NEET UG 2025, candidates should be familiar with the domicile rules. To be eligible for the 85 per cent state quota in Karnataka, candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:
1. Seven-Year Study in Karnataka: The candidate must have studied in a government or recognised school in Karnataka for at least seven years between Class 1 and Class 12.
2. Parents Studied in Karnataka: The candidate must have passed Class 11 and 12 from a Karnataka institution and have parents who studied in Karnataka for at least seven years.
3. Language Eligibility: The candidate or their parents’ mother tongue must be Kannada, Tulu, or Kodava, and the parents must be domiciled in Karnataka.
4. Study Outside Karnataka: Students who have studied outside Karnataka or are currently residing outside the state will need to undergo a Kannada Language Test.
5. Defence Personnel: If the candidate’s parents are defence personnel who served in Karnataka for at least one year, they may be eligible.
6. Ex-Servicemen: Children of ex-servicemen who have declared Karnataka as their hometown are also eligible.
7. Government Employees: If the candidate’s parents are central or state government employees who have served in Karnataka for at least one year, they qualify.
8. Children of MPs: Children of Members of Parliament (MPs) elected from Karnataka can apply, regardless of where they studied for their Class 12.
9. Migrants from J&K: Students whose parents are migrants from Jammu and Kashmir must provide proof of their status.
10. Kannada Medium: Students who have studied for a full 10 years in Kannada medium do not need to take a language test, provided they pass the qualifying examination from any government or government-recognised educational institution in the country.
11. CAPF Employees: Parents employed in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) who have declared Karnataka as their hometown must provide the necessary proof of domicile when required by the Directorate.
