Like most other IITs, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is the most preferred programme at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. The course recorded 19,513 choices in 2025, up from 16,506 last year — marking an 18.22 per cent increase. The sustained high preference underlines the continued dominance of core computing disciplines, driven by demand in software engineering, systems design, and advanced digital technologies.

However, the fastest growth this year was seen in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, which registered a 20.17 per cent rise, with choices increasing from 14,233 in 2024 to 17,104 in 2025. The sharp jump highlights growing student interest in AI-led problem-solving, data analytics, machine learning applications, and interdisciplinary technology roles.

IIT Jodhpur has recorded a strong rise in student preference across a wide range of its undergraduate programmes in 2025, according to the latest Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) choice-count data.

Among traditional engineering disciplines, Civil and Infrastructure Engineering recorded one of the strongest growth rates at 16.91 per cent, rising from 8,598 in 2024 to 10,052 choices in 2025. The increase aligns with renewed focus on infrastructure development, sustainable construction, and climate-resilient engineering. Mechanical Engineering also witnessed a robust growth of 15.01 per cent, moving from 12,091 to 13,906 choices.

Electrical Engineering saw a healthy 14.05 per cent increase, with choices rising from 13,629 to 15,544, reflecting sustained interest in power systems, electronics, embedded technologies, and emerging semiconductor-linked domains. Chemical Engineering registered a 13.37 per cent rise, increasing from 9,859 to 11,177, reaffirming its relevance in industrial processing, energy systems, and research-driven manufacturing.
