GATE 2025: Registration; application, exam date — things you need to know

GATE 2025: The registrations for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) has been postponed by the Institute. Now, registration for the GATE 2025 will begin on August 28 (Wednesday). Earlier the registration for the exam was to be started from today (August 24). As of now, the application will be closed on September 26.

But, once the login window gets active, candidates can fill out the application form at the official website — gate2025.iitr.ac.in. This year, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R) will organise the aptitude test. Before you register, here is what you need to know about GATE:

GATE is a national-level examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities. The examination for the GATE will be held between February 1 to 16.

GATE 2025: Eligibility

Candidates who are currently studying in the third or higher years of any undergraduate degree programme or who have completed any government-approved degree programme in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities are eligible to appear for the exam 2025.

GATE 2025: Registration

The registration for the engineering exam will start on August 28 and will end on September 26, without late fees. With late fees, the last date for the registration is October 7.

GATE 2025: Application & documents

In the application form, the candidate has to fill in personal information including name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents’ name, parents’ and mobile number among other fields. Students will also need to upload some documents like:

– Eligibility degree details.

– Details of their net banking/debit card / credit card / UPI for the fee payment.

— High quality image of candidate’s coloured photograph of passport size.

— High quality image of candidate’s signature.

— Copy of category certificate (SC, ST)  in pdf format (if applicable).

— Copy of scanned PwD certificate in the pdf format (if applicable).

— Copy of scanned certificate of dyslexia in a PDF format (if applicable).

— Scanned copy of valid photo Identity document: Aadhaar-UID (preferable)/ passport/ PAN card/ voter id/ driving license.

— The photo id must have the name, date of birth of the candidate and unique photo id number. This photo id must be carried to the examination hall for verification.

GATE 2025: Exam cities

There are no international centres for test 2025. Any foreign or Indian nationals who are interested in appearing for the examination will have to travel to India to appear for the test. GATE 2025: Syllabus and marks

The test papers will be in English language and in computer based mode. The three hour examination will consist of general aptitude along with subjects opted by a student. There will be three types of questions: MCQ, MSQ and numerical answer type (NAT).

The paper will be of 100 marks with 15 marks of general aptitude. For a wrong answer in an MCQ, there will be negative marking, while there is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ or NAT questions. For more information on the marks, students can visit the official website.

GATE 2024: Results

Results of the examination will be declared on March 19.
