CUET UG 2023 Begins: UP registers highest number of applications, J-K sees significant rise

CUET UG 2023: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2023 for admissions to undergraduate programmes from May 21 t0 31. The application process for the same concluded on April 11. Admit cards for CUET UG 2023 will be released in the second week of May at the official website cuet.samarth.ac.in.

From increase in number of female candidates to Uttar Pradesh, Delhi getting maximum registrations, here are top points from a comparison of this year’s CUET registrations from its debut year:

— This year, a total of 16.85 lakh students have registered for the entrance exam, out of which 13.95 lakh paid the application fee and successfully submitted the form. This year’s registrations saw an increase of 4 lakh candidates as in 2022, a total of 12.5 lakh students registered and 9.9 lakh had paid the fees. There has been an increase of 41 per cent in the number of students who will appear for the exam.

The number of participating universities have increased from 90 in 2022 to 242 in 2023. In 2022, students from 59 countries submitted their applications, which has increased to 74 countries this year, with around 1000 students from various parts of Europe, Asia, America and Gulf countries.

Out of the 13.99 lakh students who will be appearing for CUET UG 2023, 6.51 lakh are female compared to 4.43 lakh female aspirants in 2022 an increase of nearly 50 per cent. This year, there are 7.48 lakh male applicants, a 34 per cent increase from last year’s 5.56 lakh male candidates.

Interestingly, there has been a significant increase from the number of candidates from Jammu and Kashmir. In 2022, a total of 13,021 students took CUET UG, which increased to 82,655 this time. There has also been a considerable jump in the number applicants from North-Eastern region (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim) from 59,208 in 2022 to 77,365 in 2023 an increase of 31 per cent.

A similar trend from last year is the states which have received the highest number of registrations. Like 2022, the top three states with the largest number of applications are Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar. Among the five Southern states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana), the highest number of applications were received from Kerala. A total 56,111 applications were submitted from Kerala.

University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, University of Allahabad, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia have received the highest number of applications.
