Simarpreet Kaur of Prabhakar Senior Secondary School, Chehratta in Amritsar, came second in the state with 98.92 per cent marks.
SIMRANDEEP KAUR of BGSUS Senior Secondary School, Tarn Taran, topped the state by securing 99.08 per cent marks in Class X exams, results of which were declared by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Tuesday.
Simarpreet Kaur of Prabhakar Senior Secondary School, Chehratta in Amritsar, came second in the state with 98.92 per cent marks and Arsh Malhotra of Shivalik Model School, Jagraon, bagged the third position in the state by securing 98.77 per cent marks.
The board also prepared a separate merit list for the students of sports category but they made it clear that the toppers would be considered from academics category only.

In the sports category, Pushwinder Kaur and Tanisha Sharma, both students of BCM Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, secured 100 per cent marks in the examination and jointly held the first position while Damanpreet Kaur remained second in the category by securing 99.85 marks and Mehakjot Singh stood second in the state in the sports category by securing 99.69 per cent marks. Both Damanpreet and Mehakjot are students of Teja Singh Swantantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana.
This year the pass percentage is 72.25 per cent which is around four per cent more than the last year. Girls once again did better than boys in the results. The pass percentage of girls is 78.03 per cent while that of the boys is 67.43 per cent.
Declaring the results, PSEB chairperson Dr Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal said that a total of 3,42,330 candidates appeared in the board examination, out of whom 2,47,340 students passed the examination while 25,662 students failed and 69,152 students got re-appear in the examination.
She said that as many as 39,071 students got 80 or above 80 per cent marks in the examination this year.
The pass percentage of the rural schools is better than that of the urban schools in the examination this year.
This year the pass percentage of the rural schools is 72.66 while that of the urban schools is 71.46.
The chairperson said that the pass percentage of the affiliated schools is better than that of the associated schools and the government schools. The pass percentage of the affiliated schools is 82.76 while that of associated schools is 70.46 and government schools is 69.03 per cent.
Affiliated schools are those private schools which fulfil all the conditions of the Right to Education while associated schools are private schools which do not fulfil the RTE norms.
