More than 15 workers faced breathing difficulties and were rushed to a hospital following bromine gas leak from an agrochemical factory at Jambusar in Bharuch Wednesday afternoon.
The workers were rushed to Dr Tushar Patel’s Hospital in Jambusar from where around five employees were shifted to a private hospital in Vadodara, said police sources.
The incident took place at P.I. Chemicals in Sarod village when bromine gas leaked from the storage tank and spread across the entire factory. The sky briefly turned yellowish-red as a result of the leakage. Later, fire officials brought the leakage under control.
Congress leader and Jambusar former MLA Sanjay Solanki, who arrived at the hospital where the workers were admitted to, assured all possible help. Jambusar taluka BJP president Balwantsinh Padhiyar and general secretary Chandrakant Patel were also at the hospital.
“We are awaiting a report from the factory inspector and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board. If needed, we will take action,” said Bharuch Deputy Superintendent of Police PL Chaudhary.
