The Surat crime branch Wednesday arrested a worker of a powerloom factory in the city who allegedly called a news channel and threatened to kill Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The accused was identified as Ankit Kumar Mishra (28), a native of Thana Lalgunj in Bihar’s Vaishali district. Mishra works at a powerloom factory at Diamond industrial estate near Sarthana in Surat. The Surat crime branch officials arrested the accused after raiding a house at Laskana area in Surat. According to police, during questioning, Mishra confessed to have made a threat call to a local news channel in Patna on March 20 claiming that he will kill Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with explosives in the next 36 hours. The accused was detained on Wednesday morning and was handed over to Bihar police who came down to Surat. Surat Crime Branch Inspector Lalit Vaghadiya told The Indian Express, “The news channel had intimated the Bihar CMO following which the secretariat police station registered an offence and started a probe. Bihar Police traced the phone number and found out that the accused is staying in Surat. Following this, we carried out a raid and arrested Ankit Kumar Mishra this morning.” Vaghadiya added, “The accused had been staying with roommates in Surat and was working at a private powerloom factory. The accused has not given any reason for making the threat call.”
