Ruby Hall In Vitro Fertilisation IVF and Endoscopy Centre in collaboration with InterMedics,Cook Medical, and Sydney IVF Centre conducted a hands-on workshop on embryo freezing vitrification on Wednesday.

Vitrification is the ultra-rapid method of freezing embryos,Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar, head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology and chief of the Ruby Hall Clinic’s IVF department said. Dr. James Catt,National Director of Embryology,Sydney IVF was also present at the workshop.

In an IVF programme, the young couple often has ‘surplus’ embryos, which can be stored in the IVF laboratory for later use. This storage works as the embryo bank enabling the couples to utilize their embryos as and when required. Therefore,it becomes cost effective to the patient as in the next cycle the patient does not have to go through another cycle of IVF (Test tube baby). They can now use these ready-made embryos.

Vitrification is one of the latest technologies in the field of Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) and is gaining wide acceptance globally mainly due to its established high recovery rates as compared to slow freezing technique.

The association of Ruby Hall IVF Endoscopy Centre and Sydney IVF can be traced back to 2002,beginning with their collaboration since inception and continuing through various International Conferences arranged time and again, said Tandulwadkar.
