Workshop on digital image processing

Army Institute of Training is conducting a five-day workshop on digital image processing,beginning June 28.

Army Institute of Training (AIT) is conducting a five-day workshop on digital image processing,beginning June 28. Experts from different defence institutes of the country will participate in the workshop to discuss the relevance of digital imaging in defence sector.

This is being organised to make academic professionals familiar with latest developments in the field of defence application relevant with today’s security environment.

“The main aim of this programme is to attract young and dynamic academic professionals from across the country. This will enable them to enhance their experience in the field of digital image processing. They will be also familiarised with recent developments in the field of robotics,unnmanned aerial vehicles and other defence applications that have added significance in today’s security environment,” said director,AIT Brig (retd),SK Lahiri. Director,R&DE,B Rajagopalan will be the chief guest of the inaugural session.

“Digital image processing is the manipulation of images by computers,with application in varied domains,including industrial,medical and scientific research. There is tremendous upsurge in the use of remote sensing with digital imaging techniques for military applications. Some of the recent applications are face recognition,finger print ecognition for security purpose,weather observation and prediction,multispectral imaging from satellites among others,” said principal AIT,Dr VP Gosavi.

Eminent speakers for this programme are from reputed industries and defence research establishments like Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Bengaluru,R&D Engineers,SCI-COM Software Pvt. Ltd.,among others.

“The theme of the programme is to cover various aspects of image processing. The topics covered are mobile robotics for defence,digital image processing in defence scenario,iris recognition,pattern recognition,image fusion,image formats,tracking and magnification and some important recent trends and applications in this field,” he said.

As part of the workshop,senior scientist R&DE,Alok Mukherjee will be demonstrating the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV named – Netra) developed for surveillance on the closing day. The valedictory function will be presided over by Dr RK Shevgaonkar,vice-chancellor,Pune University.
