With nearly 3,000 youths finding placements through its job fairs in the past two years, the Pune District Employment and Self-Employment Guidance Bureau has only got more ambitious this year. The bureau, which organised six job fairs in the past two years,is looking to organise five such fairs this year itself.
The fairs had elicited good response from both the applicants and private companies. Last year, there have been 135 companies that listed out 2,270 vacancies. This year,we already have 67 employers registered with us; there are 5,222 applicants for these job fairs, said district employment officer GA Sangade. We got about 2,965 candidates placed with various private companies in the past two years. We hope to have more this year.
With Pune being among the select cities in the state to get job fairs being conducted by the district employment agency,Sangade said the response had only gone up in the past three years. This year,I hope to have five fairs and want to meet a target of 15,000 contestants; we hope another 3,000 at least to make it to various companies.
The district has 51,163 applications registered with the employment agency, while 3,896 companies have notified job requirements.
Sangade said they were trying their best to reach out to the maximum companies. The employment is purely on the discretion of employers.
With the next one to be conducted on June 10-11,Sangade said the district was progressing in these job fairs just as the state government has mentioned in one of its resolutions.
A senior officer from the employment department in Mumbai said the state had seen 134 job fairs last year, which had 38,000 job vacancies and 58,000 candidates as applicants. As many as 8,200 persons got placements with nearly 800 employers. This year,we hope to touch 150 job fairs and we will see more involvement from the private sector. They can notify us online or by e-mail and this does not put any financial burden on the company.
The governments employment department presently has a database of 29 lakh applications. The data available also mentions that there were 84,026 applicants who were placed with various companies in the state.
