Winter sets in,Pune records 14.7 degrees Celsius

According to IMD officials,the temperature is likely to go down further in the next 48 hours.

For the second consecutive day,minimum temperature of the city continued to be near the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 14.7 degree Celsius,with only Amravati recording 14.6 degree Celsius. On Wednesday,it was 14.3 degree Celsius,the lowest in the state,and the met department has predicted a further dip in the temperature,in the coming days.

“There is western disturbance towards the northern parts of the country such as Jammu and Kashmir,and the winds that move from the north to south are bringing cold waves with them,due to which there is a drop in temperature in many parts of the state,” said Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) officials.

After Diwali,the minimum temperature continued to dip gradually. According to IMD officials,the temperature is likely to go down further in the next 48 hours. The temperature would hover around 12-13 degree Celsius,officials said.

With the delay in the withdrawal of the south-west monsoon,most parts of the state witnessed rains till mid October and after the south-west monsoon withdrew,the temperature in most parts of the state,including Pune and Mumbai,increased and this was followed by the October heat.

On Thursday,Pune’s temperature was lower than Mahabaleshwar,which recorded 15.8 degree Celsius,while Jalgaon was 17.1 degree Celsius and Satara was 16.3 degree Celsius. According to the met department,the lowest temperature recorded in November last year was on November 19 at 7.9 degree Celsius,which was the lowest in the past ten years (table below).

The lowest temperature ever recorded for the month was on November 27,1964 at 4.6 degree Celsius.
