Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan on Wednesday interviewed the five candidates short-listed for the post of vice chancellor of the University of Pune.
However, the university will have to wait for some more time to get its new full-time vice chancellor as the Governor is yet to declare the name of the candidate chosen for the post.
The University of Pune has been functioning under an acting vice chancellor for over seven months. The new full-time vice chancellor is expected to take charge by the end of this month.
The five candidates include present director of UoPs board of college and university development Pandit Vidyasagar, former director of UoPs inter-disciplinary school of health sciences Bhushan Patwardhan; physics professor D G Kanhere; IIT Bombay deputy director R K Shivgaonkar and IIT Bombay faculty Prakash Gopalan.
It may be recalled that the three-member vice chancellor search committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice B N Srikrishna, had short listed five candidates for the post of UoP vice chancellor a month ago. For the first time, the government has made some changes in the selection process in an effort to bring transparency.
The post of the UoP V-C has been lying vacant since June 15 after the then V-C Narendra Jadhav resigned to join as a member of Planning Commission. Arun Adsool has been the acting V-C ever since.
