‘Wrong acts of a few affecting varsity image’

Worried about the bad publicity the University of Pune (UoP) has been getting of late because of the wrongdoing of a few, heads of various departments and members of the senate and academic council of the university will join together for a rally on the campus on March 23,unless concrete action is taken against the guilty.

The senate meeting on the varsity budget is supposed to be held on March 23.

A group headed by senate member Rajendra Vikhe Patil on Saturday met University of Pune Vice-Chancellor WN Gade to discuss the recent issues related to examination section goof-ups and various other issues that have been tarnishing the image of the university.

They submitted a memorandum asking the university to take concrete action against wrongdoers.

A senate member,Shashikant Tikote, said,“We have submitted our demands in a letter to WN Gade. If the University fails to take appropriate action before March 23,we will protest on the campus.”

“It has been seen that the varsity is not taking any concrete action against people involved in examination irregularities,” said the memorandum.

Some other points raised in the memorandum were,“The funds allotted under Quality Improvement Programmes should be increased as colleges have been unable to complete their infrastructure development programmes, like construction of toilets for visiting parents and students on campus; the examination fees of students hailing from districts affected by the drought should be returned to them, and the learn-and-earn scheme remuneration should be hiked.”
