Close on heels of launching its executive MBA course in Ras Al Khaimah,UAE,the University of Pune has announced plans to open a replica of the varsity in Kampala, the capital of Uganda,in Africa this year. By starting these offshore campuses, the university aims to cater to the largest chunk of international students on its campus – those from West Asia and Africa.
We are coordinating with our state government and the Uganda government to start the Kampala campus. If we get all forms of permission, the campus will start functioning by September this year, University vice-chancellor Narendra Jadhav told a news meet on Sunday.
The Kampala campus will be a replica of the university and will offer courses in arts, science and commerce as well as engineering and medicine,Jadhav said. We also plan to develop a Pune model, wherein the UoP will outsource certain work to local educational institutions while we will do the evaluation and award degrees.
Africans form the second largest group among the international students who come to UoP for study. The most stable country is Africa is Uganda, which is why we have decided to start a campus there, Jadhav said.
