Two involved in ATM

Investigation has revealed their involvement in stealing batteries of five ATMs of different banks.

The city police have arrested two persons involved in stealing batteries of ATMs in Nana Peth and Deccan area. The suspects have been identified as Mohammed Shafiq Shaikhali (51),a resident of Yerwada and Samir Ahmed Shaikh (26),a resident of Ganesh Peth.

Investigation has revealed their involvement in stealing batteries of five ATMs of different banks.

Police havaldar Laxamn Malvadkar and constable Ganesh Muthaiyya,who were on night patrolling duty,arrested the suspects in the early hours of Tuesday after they were fleeing with a battery of a Central Bank of India ATM in Rasta Peth.

During interrogation,the duo admitted to thefts of batteries from four more ATMs and told police that they sell the batteries to scrap vendors.

Following this,a police team raided shops of three scrap vendors identified as Salim Sahikh of Shivajinagar,Ashpak Patel of Ganesh Peth,and Shaikh Mohammed Rafiq of Bhavani Peth. Police recovered 23 batteries worth Rs 1.16 lakh from the suspects.

Senior inspector G V Nikam,inspector B B Ingle,sub-inspector Vinod Chavan are investigating the case.
