As they say, most people miss an opportunity because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. But this group of youngsters made the most of it,plodding a path where every alluring opportunity is equally risky. Venturing into a range of disparate enterprises six college friends from various faculties came together a couple of months ago and since then have speedily and commendably expanded their commerce.

While all of them were certain of entrepreneurship the trial began in January when the group set a tea stall at the three day Brahmin Adhiveshan. “It was an experiment and that’s when we realised that we could make it big through our teamwork. So we eventually proceeded for a travels company a month ago named Swapnapurti Tours and Travels at Nanapeth, converting my flat into a office. It has been a very successful attempt with three trips till now. For the time being we predominantly cover the state especially the Konkan area. However next on the cards is a week long tour to Kashi and a 10-day long tour to Kerala,” adds Tejas Ekbote, who has recently finished his ICWA course. While they take turns to go as guides on tours they are also accompanied by Ekbote’s father, who has detailed knowledge of various spots.

The newest is the franchisee of Amruta foods, started 15 days back. It was a lucky grab when Suhas Goagate, proprietor of Amruta foods, spotted their joint effort at the tea stall and offered them this prospect. Bringing edible products such as pickles, juices and fruit pulps from Gogate’s canning factory in Sindhudurg, they also opened a shop in Kothrud this Gudi Padwa .

Splitting time for college and company their broad schedule is about shifting from one workplace to another as well as creating a market for the products. “Each one of us does everything so that incase there is a dearth of manpower the work is not hampered. My day starts at seven and ends at nine in the night,” adds Shantanu Dhaygude , a business management student who in addition to this also looks after his family business.

The group has sold food products worth Rs 50,000 in the last 15 days. Seizing each opportunity, the group now plans to chalk in more products from Konkan as Ekbote adds positively,“The response is overwhelming and also these days it is the job that gives lesser consistency, while business churns your leadership skills and allows you to take decisions. More and more youngsters should thrive to be independent. All and the only unswerving investment it takes is hard work.”
