The Green Ladies
The 44th Flower and Vegetable Show organised by the Poona Womens Council,Shukrawar Peth,mesmerised the city over the weekend. The show was organised with an aim to spread awareness and educate people about the environment. Present on the occasion were Ratush Wadia,president of Poona Womens Council,Rakhi Shetty,vice president and Pushpa Hegde,co-convener of the show. We are in our 45th year and this is an effort to encourage people to save the environment, said Ratush Wadia,president of Poona Womens Council. The theme for this year was Go-Green. “We see so much of green around us but seldom endeavour to conserve it. We want to propagate terrace farming,bonsai plantations and several other methods, added Rakhi Shetty,vice president. The show was held at the Mahasainik Lawns,Empress Garden Road,and was a riot of natural hues with several blooming flowers,potted plants,fruits and vegetables. Many of our members are experts in home plantations. It was a great honour to showcase fruits and flowers grown under our care, said Pushpa Hegde,co-convener of the show. The 50 spectacular bonsais of various kinds stood testimony to the efforts of these ladies. Flower arrangements by Kalashirsti were also displayed.

Mystic Masala,the Indian restaurant at Vivanta by Taj Blue Diamond,recently revamped its menu and launched it in style. The menu now boasts of more regionalised recipes and local favourites. The new menu was inaugrated by noted food writer,Karen Anand,and socialite,Monika Trivedi. I invited Laxman,the hotel’s former chef,from Nagpur and Raste Ma’am,a lecturer at a catering college in the city,to come to our kitchen and demonstrate how to make authentic dishes from Kolhapur,Solapur,Nagpur,Malvadi,Konkan,Vidharbha,Sanghvi and Sawantwadi, said Chef Elango Rajendra,executivechef at Vivanta by Taj. The restaurant is now serving Bharele Vangi,Chicken Kolhapuri,Kothambirchi wadi ,Aloo chi wadi and Puranpoli,along with a variety of chutneys.
