A theatre troupe from Europe has collaborated with Indian artiste Anaida for its latest cabaret
The intimacy of cabaret lies in the emotions expressed in the performance, not in the nudity. It is a show with sound, dance, comedy and theatre, says Asti. She is one of the 35 artistes from across Europe who will perform the Bombaloo Live cabaret show in the city.
What does Bombaloo mean? Its just a word for something fun and lively. We were told that in India, cabaret was viewed differently,so we had to think of a word that brought out the playful essence of our show. By the end of our show,we want the audience to connect with Bombaloo so deeply that they use it as a verb or adjective in their sentences, says Victor, the producer. For them,Bombaloo is a place,an emotion, anything one wants it to be.
The show will also feature Indian pop artiste Anaida. She will perform four to five popular Hindi songs to add a dash of Indianness to the Broadway-like production. This collaboration is an honour. One would generally need to travel to London or New York to see a show as extravagant as this, says Anaida.
The show will be an interaction between the anchor and the audience along with the dancers and singers. Special focus has been given to the lighting used for the show which will be handled by Roger Drego from Mumbai. A group of five Indian dancers have been trained to perfection by choreographer Guntis Spridzans. We have been introduced to a whole new world of dance. Guntis has taught us the correct techniques involved in jazz, stomp, contemporary, step dance and more, says Darshan Sarolkar, one of the dancers. Bombaloo will be anchored by Abish Matthews,a Delhi-based stand-up comedian who will use interactive gimmicks to keep the audience involved.
The group will tour Russia and Armenia before revisiting India on December 25.
(Bombaloo will be performed at the Grand Ballroom,Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre,Senapati Bapat Road,on November 28)
