Ek Titli Foundation pitches for organic farming and celebrates environmental work done anywhere in the world
This young team of environment enthusiasts has set out on a venture to be the driving force for positive growth. Ek Titli Foundation works on two verticals promotion of organic farming and running a web portal to bring to notice all the good things happening around the world to conserve the environment. Formally set up by Vaibhav Dugar and Bhavik Kaul in December 2010,they have grown with 70,000 volunteers worldwide, over 4,000 fans on Facebook and a considerable number of followers on Twitter. “Ek Titli was an idea for a very long time. We started off by sending DDs of Rs 60 each to our friends and relatives on their birthdays and asking them to buy a plant for themselves with it,” says Dugar,a telecommunication engineer. He and Kaul,a team leader in an information technology company, quit their jobs to become professional environmentalists last December.
The web portal is intended to be a platform to connect green technology vendors with clients. “The site ektitli.org is in process to provide a consolidated list of all the green technologies in the world. It is also a place where we bring to light the commendable things that individuals, institutions, organisations and companies do to contribute towards the betterment of the environment, says Kaul.
The foundation largely focuses on spreading awareness and involving the general public in a process to make the world a greener place. “We distributed free Tulsi saplings to people on World Environment Day. We conduct workshops to spread awareness about protecting the environment. We had even provided some information technology firms with solutions to recyle and channelise their digital waste like outdated monitors, keyboards and processors, says Swati Maheshwari, corporate communications manager. ‘If you want change, you might as well go and make it’ is what the Ek Titli Foundation believes in. People are encouraged to join the campaign by volunteering for their sapling distribution programme,poster-making and even writing for their website.
