A relaxed ambience coupled with a delectable collection of teas is what this place offers.
As one walks into Chai House, located at The Trattoria,O Hotel, one instantly notices the heightened sense of space. An alfresco combination of wireframe couches with white canopies and coloured lampshades in contrast is pleasing to the eye. Opened three months ago,Chai House has a collection of various teas along with a complete breakfast menu.
Samir Sachin Prasad, associate director, food and beverage sales, says that the main concept of Chai House came from the relaxed ambience that outdoor cafes in Europe offer. Located on North Main road,Koregaon Park, next to the German Bakery,a large chunk of clientele here is the expat community from the vicinity.
The menu has been printed on to metal slate boards, the kind you would see little children practise the alphabets on. The eight types of teas offered at Chai House range from the innovative chocolate chai to the moderately popular Baileys chai. There is also the traditional fresh mint tea and the Kashmiri kahwa.
Considering that its a relaxed after-hours place, the seating arrangement is in sync. As many as 45 people can be accommodated here. Even though it is located outside,in tandem with the coffee shop next door, there is a separate entrance to Chai House. There is an abundant use of white colour, juxtaposed with the outdoor greens.
The menu is limited though. Going by the name of the place, one would have expected no less than two dozen types of teas. The least expensive item on the menu costs Rs 95. However, the taste is authentic. The menu also consists of tea-time eats, coffees, cool beverages (aptly called thandaa) and light snacks.
On the whole, the ambience is pleasant. If the prices do not pinch the pocket,it could be a nice place to spend a quiet evening.
