Its so much a part of our lives, that we hardly spare a thought towards how tea is produced and processed. On any given day,we just grab a cuppa in a hurry and forget to savour it at leisure.
This is just what the event hosted by Monika Trivedi on Wednesday at her sprawling bungalow in Koregaon Park aimed to do. Ever since we were introduced to this leaf, tea is a beverage that most Indians cannot do without. At our tea party, guests learnt all about this unique drink, the process it undergoes, the special requirements to grow, process and brew this beverage and the various types of tea, informs Trivedi.
At the event, guests sampled different varieties of tea, with tea expert Ravi Thapa explaining the intricacies of the brew in detail. The quality of tea is affected by a number of factors, like limited sunshine, limited rainfall and so on, says Ravi Thapa. Also, there are three main tea producing areas in the country Darjeeling, known for the flavour of the brew,Assam, famous for the crusty, strong taste and the Nilgiris, best known for the distinct colour of the tea produced there, he adds.
What made the event, which was held in aid of the Aman Setu School more unique was it was exclusively for mothers and daughters. We all get immersed in our daily routine and despite our utmost desire, never seem to find enough time for each other, says Trivedi. The Aman Setu School is a unique school which is trying to bridge divides that threaten to engulf todays society and create future citizens who will be balanced, tolerant and well rounded human beings, she adds.
