This is where city-based designers come to their rescue,with a range of cool and chic accessories for young girls on the go. “Whether you are hanging around with friends at a coffee shop in the evenings or going for coaching classes,chilling out at a Sunday brunch or evening attending lectures in college,who says you can’t add style to every activity,” says Rachel Gurjar,owner of a local brand of accessories called Miss Moxie. Out with her latest collection,Gurjar adds a twist to charm bracelets and turns them into funky neck pieces. “These have little daggers,anchors,hearts,bows and unicorns dangling. They are light and can jazz up a plain vest like magic,” she says.

Gurjar has also spiked up the bellies in her collection. “Spikes-on-leather look is in vogue and I also have a range of spikey bellies this season. They look funky but are very comfortable,” she says. Twenty three-year-old Asma Rahman agrees. “The summer is all about shades,pretty hairbands and neck pieces. The mantra for striking a balance between being fashionable and comfortable this season is to accessorise yourself in a smart way. Instead of bulky earrings,a simple neckpiece does the trick of adding glamour to the otherwise plain vest,” says Rahman,a student of Symbiosis.

Another hot favourite among college girls this season is the sling bag,which combines functionality and fashion. “I have experimented with the owl motif to add quirk to the bags. These are available in a variety of bright neon colours as well. The square sling bag is selling like hotcakes among college students. It looks small but is very spacious,” says Ankita Patel,owner of Designerds.

She adds that they have enough space to fit in a notebook,or even two for that matter,a wallet and some knick-knacks.

For Neha Jagetiya,summer is just an excuse to add more frames to her collection of sunglasses. “I have a range of sunglasses in all shapes and colours. From aviators to wayfarers to the really large bee-eye type frames,I wear a different one every day,” says the 22-year-old,a student of BNCA College.

The latest addition to her collection is a pair of shades from Vero Moda that she picked up at a recent sale. “I am obsessed with the square shape of my new glasses. Also,it’s not very dark and my eyes show through the frame,” she says.
