For Sanjeev Joshi,a Sunday painter for the last five years, this one is going to be a festival of opportunity, when he will display his landscape paintings, with 75 other painters and many proficient artists scrutinising them. In its third year now,Artfest 09 will host a week-long exhibition on the arts of emerging and amateur artistes and seminars and demonstrations by experts in various fields across visual arts.
Organised by the Indiaart Gallery, this one will have a blend of everything, including an exhibition of photographs and daily programs featuring talks, film screenings and so on. Eminent artist Prabhakar Kolte will inaugurate the exhibition, followed by a trail of activities and several other experts such as Shrikant Jadhav,Babu Udupi, and Khalil Khan sharing their knowledge the following days.
Starting this fest,we are also launching a series of activities, events and educational initiatives for emerging and amateur artists and photographers that will be held every first Sunday of the month. These works are in oil on canvas, papier mache objects, warli paintings, pencil on paper and so on; altogether, there are around 100 works, covering subjects like landscape, still life, figurative, wildlife and abstract, says Milind Sathe, director,Indiaart Gallery.
I will be speaking on the colour wheel and explaining various other aspects, including contrast, tones and keys. Any painter should have a clear base so that handling the colours becomes easier. It is important to disseminate new rules and if one wishes to rewrite them, one must be thorough with the existing ones, says Jayprakash Jagtap,ex-principal Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya and author of several books on colour theory and application.
Painting has been my hobby and I have also done a watercolor course, after which I have been consistently painting landscapes. This is a good opportunity to learn from experts and get to know their analysis, adds Joshi,an architect by profession.
