General Motors India won double glory with both the Chevrolet Spark and the Aveo U-VA winning the top awards for quality in the India Automotive Initial Quality Study conducted by J D Power Asia Pacific 2008.
The Chevrolet Spark and the Aveo U-VA were ranked the highest in their respective segments in this 0JD Power study,which is the industry benchmark for new vehicle quality. The awards were given away at a ceremony held in New Delhi recently.
The Chevrolet Spark was ranked first and won the top award in the Compact Car Segment,with a score of 148 PP100. This is the second year in a row that the Spark has bagged this prestigious award. Similarly,the Aveo U-VA won the award for the best car in the Premium Compact Segment,with a score of 102 PP100. The Chevrolet Tavera has also been ranked at Second in the MUV / MPV Segment.
Commenting on the multiple wins,P Balendran,vice president,GM India said,These prestigious wins from J D Power,coming the second year in a row,clearly serve to reiterate that Chevrolet has become the preferred automobile brand in terms of quality and customer delight.
The JD Power India IQS study is measured at two to six months of ownership. The IQS examines more than 200 problem symptoms in two distinct categoriesquality of design and quality of productionacross eight vehicle components. Overall quality performance is based on both design quality and production quality problems per 100 vehicles (PP100),with lower scores indicating a lower rate of problem incidence and higher vehicle quality. The 2008 India Initial Quality Study,now in its twelfth year,is based on evaluations from more than 6,000 owners who purchased a new vehicle between November 2007 and July 2008.
It included 45 vehicle models covering 12 makes and was fielded from May to September 2008 in 20 cities across India.
